KT: First Up; what's your DJ name and how did you get/choose it?
After a few name changes I
finally landed on ‘Jump Street’ (long before the recent movie release or that
club night was coined haha). I picked it from a list of 80’s tv shows I found on the internet. Not
wanting anything super serious, I figured the term Jump was somewhat relatable
to the dance scene.
KT: How did you come to start DJing?
I’ve always been interested
in music and production, having played guitar and piano when I was a kiddy. My
love for electronic dance music probably came about after an exchange trip to
France in year 10 where I was introduced to a lot of ‘Ed Banger’ label type
stuff. Watching Justice’s documentary ‘A Cross The Universe’, kindly lent to me
by Alex Helmer, sealed the deal! I started making crappy playlists for parties,
eventually progressing to djing a slewth of 18ths and 21sts before progressing
to my first Club gig in June 2011.
KT: What can people expect to hear from one of your sets?
Fake Chow last week was off
the chain! I had a lot of fun ^^. I also played a handful of sets down the
Surfcoast for Schoolies which were definitely well received.
KT: What can people expect to hear from from one of your sets?
I’m all about the fun and
quircky and love to cross between House, Deep House, Tech & Bass. I tried
to make a varied mixtape to depict this.
KT: Who's your favourite DJ/Producer at the moment?
It’s almost impossible to
narrow it down. I’m a sucker for anything from labels such as No Brainer, Mad
Decent, Top Billin, Sweat It Out! & Bromance. With such solid material
coming out, often from relatively unkown guys and gals all the time!
However…
Australia: What So Not,
They have been absolutely killing it!
International: Savage
Skulls, They always have something released I can use.
KT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical' and why?
Carte Blanche: With You;
they are some damn tropical drums at the intro!
KT: What plans do you have for Jump Street in the future?
I’ve started on some serious
production work, which I hope to improve on in between my aviation course. There
are a few originals at various stages of completion and the plan is to have an
EP ready by the end of the year. I’m eager to bang out a few more remixes over
the uni break and am looking forward to more gigs and perhaps making an effort
towards getting booked!
KT: What's your favourite memory of a live gig you've seen?
Danger at the Hi Fi last
year.
KT: To all the promoters out there; why should they book you?
My gigs are eclectic and
fun, I never play the same set twice and my past experience with all styles of venue
means I can aurally please any punter. Don’t like playing songs for ages
either, which keeps things interesting.

In a matter of months he has defined a whole new genre of forward-thinking underground house music that draws elements from classic house, UK bass music, Detroit techno, jungle and early rave, paying homage to everything from Randy Crawford to Ray Charles and Murk to MK

KT: First Up; what's your DJ name and how did you get/choose it?
0h h3y! We chose it during a basketball session with a bunch of mates.
We tried to pick a simple name that incorporates the 'dick sticker', our sort of logo. Which you will be seeing soon; unless you live in the eastern suburbs and have seen it kicking around on the bottom left corner of cars rear windows.
KT: How did you come to working together/start DJing?
We went to school together and got put on a vs set for the first ever time we played at Orange Whip. Decided it is easier to fuck shit up with two dicks than one so have been fucking shit up at clubs together ever since.
KT: What can people expect to hear from one of your sets?
Something a lil different to most, a lot of house, a lil filth and nothing you have hear before, we try to be as unpredictable as possible in our sets.
KT: Who's your favourite DJ/Producer at the moment?
Melbourne: Benson
Interstate: Flume
International: Bongo
..and also currently finding some awesome German dudes producing amazing house!
KT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical' and why?
Monkey Safari - Make You Sweat
Who doesn't wanna get tropical drinking cocktails listening to that?
KT: What plans do you have for 0h h3y! in the future?
To get our names and individual sounds out there. Also just started producing so getting signed would be mint.
KT: What's your favourite memory of a live gig you've seen?
First night out watching Stafford Bro's or Nero and Booka Shade at their respective Big Day Out's.
KT: To all the promoters out there; why should they book you?
For something different that will get all the booty shakin on the dance floor.

Gavin Herlihy - Positive Thing [Get Physical Music]
3:07 PM
Gavin Herlihy, Get Physical Music, getting, gettingtropical, kid's, Kid's Table, Kids Table, Positive Thing, table, tropical
After starting the year with a bang with releases on Culprit, Leftroom and Crosstown Rebels, Gavin Herlihy returns to Get Physical with his next EP, ‘Positive Thing.’
The title track is a heavy blend of beats and reverb with a deep house vibe pouring out of it. A lot of pressure builds up in this track and escapes slowly like a hole in a tire to energize the floor. Beautiful synth work radiates throughout the mix, all leading up to a dreamy vocal line that stays in your mind while the bass returns and the crowd is in motion.
Inxec & Droog take things further, with ambient synth work full of LFO and kicks. They take the bassline for a walk in the basement, while the vocal line stands in front of the mix. Chords come into the mix and warm up the night like pills from your pocket.
‘Rhea’ is a catchy, 80’s synthpop inspired funk piece, sure to play in your head long after the party is over.
The last track, ‘How We Do It’ features a deep wavy bassline under an almost dub inspired ambience of vocal cuts and delay, set in motion by a groovy percussive set. This is a deep track and ripe for dancefloors in mid-summer heat.
