Wake The Eff Up // Thursday Thru Monday // Geetroit Provides

Writer: Kid's Table

Geetroit and it's highway cousins up in the 'burbs have a red hot weekend of festive events to make you as hung as possible whilst trying to tollerate those cock-head family members you only see once a year for a reason.

Everything kicks off tonight with two great options be you feeling Mynty fresh of down for a dose of Opium.

Babes don't like being called babes. It's a fact. Mostly because the word is thrown around 'hella east. Originality is the key.

Unfortunately due to lack of a 'better' word we're going to use it multiple times in this instance. Apologies Anna Lunoe, but you can't deny the truth. Babe is on your radar - As well as charisma, talent, flair, musicianship and this week, Mynt Thursday.

Last time she came running round the mountain it took us a while to pick our jaws up off the ground as she strutted her stuff (and tunes..) to a packed out Mynt Lounge. This time expect more. Plenty more.

It's a 'burbs X-Mas extravaganza head down tonight; Thursday 22nd of Decemeber with support from Rob Pix, James Fava, Yasumo, J Heasy (playing in nothing but a Santa hat and a matching red G-String), Play, WTRS, Howdy Doody and PAX.

Geetroit's newest and most intimate Thursday night is on again tonight and with it being the second last one for the year I recommend you head down and support this local home grown night with a cheeky shot or two. This here is an example of a real CREW of young motivated individuals to provide YOU the punters with the music you so desperately seek week in week out, rain, hail or shine. DO NOT think about complaining that there's nothing to do on a Thursday night other then put up with dick-heads at a commercial club - this is the place to be for the seasoned music enthusiast. BYO frisby & skipping rope.

Fake Chow is another brand new weekly night that happens each and every Saturday night supported and run by a solid, dedicated and motivated local CREW of promoters, deejays & producers. They have heard your out-cry of being sick of the same venues with the same 'recycled deejays' playing the same music every week. So they have listened and Fake Chow PROVIDES you with quality sounds and solid rack of ROTATING deejays keeping it fresh each week.

If Fake Chow doesn't seem like your choice of fist pump then maybe you would prefer heading down to the 4th annual 'It's A Very Fishy Christmas..' at The National Hotel aka The Nash. 1 Fish, Two Fish need no introduction and will no doubt help you get saucey so that you spend your entire christmas day wrapped up in a blanket, sunnies on and struggling on that all important first beer. They're playing 10pm-3am in the front bar w/ free entry and some other special guest deejays jumping on throughout the night to relieve them from their duties to take an over-excited venue poop. Either way this Xmas eve there's something there to get you merry.

Geetroit has a massive boxing day planned for you with 2 day/night events on to suit every taste of dance music. First options there's Knock! Knock! Who's There? at the Barking Dog - we all know what the go is here - previously coined as Sins On Sunday - what better way to spend your 26th of December than fist pumping in the kennel?! Headlining is Stevie Mink and Heath Renata w/ local support from Circus Circus, Joe Joe, TVB, Tony Wardan, Chris Van, JubTek & myself (Kid's Table). It's on 4pm til 11pm - $10 entry - fist pump ahoy!

Option number 2 for your Boxing Day/Night party is the 4th annual Boxing Day Slam at the Nash. Running from 3pm-3am the Touch Me I'm Sick fellas have an eclectic choice of bands/deejays to keep you entertained (31 acts in total!!)
True to the TMIS style there is an artist there to please everyone - DRESS + BOOTS acceptable for the lads.

If those two massive day/night parties weren't enough then you still have one more option! Fake Chow are running a special Monday edition as the official Knock! Knock! Who's There? after party. There will be buses from the Barking Dog to basement to save you catching a dreaded cab depriving you of a spirit or two that you so sorely need after a day in the sun!

Avicii: Fade Into Darkness

Writer: Kid's Table

At 22 years of age, he's the global sensation that everyone wants a piece of. Avicii, aka Tim Bergling aka Tim Berg (Grammy nominated artist), is now back with the incredible - 'Fade into Darkness'.

'Fade into Darkness' is the long awaited metamorphosis of Avicii's huge instrumental track 'Penguin' - that heavyweight stomper the whole world's been dancing to since Tiesto first dropped it earlier this year, cleverly sampling the beautiful 'Perpetuum Mobile' by Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Layered this time with blissful vocals from start to finish and combined with the melodic genius that Avicii has become renowned for, 'Fade into Darkness' is destined for one thing only - an uninterrupted trip to the top of the charts world-wide! Along for the remix ride and journey to the top is fellow Swede, Albin Myers, a production force in his own right, now adding more might than ever to the young producer's next musical masterpiece and massive hit!

Avicii just completed his national tour as part of Australia's largest music festival, Stereosonic and was one of the most stand out acts, causing crowds to swell and jam all entrances into the massive acer arena in Sydney.

Monday Mix Up #14 w/ Silversix

Interview: Kid's Table

DJ Name: Silversix
Label: Suckmusic (Director/Label Manager)
Residencies: Revolver Upstairs, Mi Casa, Wah Wah Lounge, Circus, Sorry Grandma, Bimbos, Humpday Project, Rah Bar.
Years in industry: 4-5

KT: For everyone out there looking to get into deejayin'; how did you first start and what was your 'big break'?

My first main break was when T-Rek released my track 'Turn It Down!' on Freakshow Disco Productions in December 2009, it lead to me playing at Revolver.

KT: What advice can you give to any aspiring deejays out there that want to make their hobby into a career?

DJ-ing now is more than just spinning records; I think you need to offer production as well. But don't be a sheep, try and create or do something a little different.

KT: What has been your favourite gig/venue to play at and why?

Easily Revolver Upstairs. It offers club goers something they can't find anywhere else. It also allows me to play long sets and many genres of music.

KT: Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far?

As a DJ, I'd have to say Boogs. I don't think there is another DJ who has influenced so many people whilst still keeping to himself.

KT: What projects are you working on at the moment?

Currently, just keeping on top of things with the label (Suckmusic). We're about to finish a massive overhaul of the site which is looking very good.

As for production, I'm still currently working on an album, more electronic stuff not a lot of 'dance' music, but just good music in general. Should be finished early next year. I also just finished a track with DJ PP called 'Fucking Amazing!' should be out next month and a couple of others on the way as well.

KT: For anyone who hasn't caught you live yet; what can they expect to see?

It totally depends where you catch me haha

KT: For those who have never seen you play at Revolver on a Sunday arvo - describe what it's like?

It's definitely an experience like no other club, there can be 20 people in there or 300 & both have so much vibe. Broad daylight, no fancy lights or smoke machines, just quality beer & quality music :-)

KT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical' and why?

Beer? ;-)
