L'Amour Bangers Please

Writer: Kid's Table

The Bingo Players have been on one hell of a mean streak. Topping out 2011 with back-to-back bangers like 'Rattle', 'Mode', 'Cry (Just A Little)' and many many more, they just don't know when to quit. 'L'Amour' proves that they are far from running out of fresh ideas; this song has a bouncy little groove that drops in to the raging four on the floor drops that we've come to expect from the Bingo Players. Massive, again!

Monday Mix Up #21 w/ DJ Dozza

Interview: Kid's Table

KT: First up; What's your DJ name and how did you get/choose it?

Dozza was a nickname given to me when I used to do local parties.

KT: How did you come to start deejayin'?

I got sick of going out to parties without DJs where crappy CD players were used and songs were repeated constantly and there was no lighting. I found out that not everyone could affor a DJ so I got some PA's and basic lighting and starting playing tunes at parties really cheap.

KT: What has been your favourite gig so far?

O-week in Ballarat, my first ever performance with my live vocalist.

KT: What can people expect to hear form one of your sets?

Depends where they go to hear me, I play at an RnB night but I also do main room sets. I like to cross genres when I can and anything with plenty of bass. I make a lot of my own edits so my sets are familiar but different to other DJs.

KT: Who's your favourite DJ/Producer at the moment?

I really am a fan of Chuckie at the moment because of his production but one of the best DJs I've ever seen would be A-Trak.

KT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical'?

Sex Appeal because of the bootleg from Kid's Table.

KT: If you had one special power what would it be and why?

To duplicate myself so I can play at all the gigs I get offered and not have to turn any party down.

KT: What plans do you have for DJ Dozza in the future?

Going to focus on the vocal set as it is much better than my standard DJ sets and a lot more fun.

KT: To all the promoters out there; why should they book you?

I won't bring 300 of my friends on my guestlist, but I am highly skilled, highly versatile and I entertain the crowd by adapting to the time, room and atmosphere.

Heya - David Jones

Writer: Kid's Table

Main room maestro David Jones is at the forefront of a colossal wave of talent emanating from Italy, and if his latest bomb on Azuli is anything to go by he's about to turn it up a notch! 'Heya' is pure adrenaline, bottled and served as it's meant to be; loud! But beware the breakdown, the playful flute will lure you in and when the bass starts rumbling beneath, that's when you realise there's no escape!

Monday Mix Up #20 w/ Reece Low

Writer: Kid's Table

DJ Name: Reece Low
Label: Club Cartel Records, Shabang Records, Freakshow Disco, Mini Coffee Records
Residencies: Wah Wah Lounge, Pretty As @ Shakers, White Rabbit Fridays @ Korova
Years in industry: 4-5

KT: For everyone out there looking to get into deejayin'; how did you first start and what was your 'big break'?

Well from the age of 4 I've been playing instruments and have always loved music. It wasn't until I was 17 I watched a mate DJing for the first time and thought "Hell Yeeeaaa!! That looks like heapsa fun" I loaned off my parents for my first set of decks and a mixer and straight away got onto it.

My 'Big Break' was starting my residency at Wah Wah Lounge. I use to listen to their podcasts non stop before I was DJing or producing... a couple of years later, I was resident at my favourite club and from then on my profile just got bigger.

KT: What advice can you give to any aspiring deejays out there that want to make their hobby into a career?

All I can say, is if you want to make it a hobby, you honestly have to have a passion for music and have a lot of patience, because it's not easy getting a name for yourself. Also have a back up plan in case you realise in the end you don't like it you're not left jobless lol

KT: What has been your favourite gig/venue to play at and why?

Wah Wah Lounge would definitely be a favourite. There's always a great atmosphere in the club, always a great crowd, bangin music and obviously because Wah Wah has always been my favourite club from before I was a DJ.

KT: Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far?

Honestly there are a number of DJ/Producers worldwide that have influenced me. If it came down to picking one artist I would probably have to say T-Rek, he's an amazing producer as well as an amazing DJ. Having T-Rek as another Wah Wah resident has been a big advantage for me as he's always up for giving feedback on most of my production. He also gave me the opportunity of remixing his track 'I Made Acid' which is now released on his label 'Freakshow Disco' and also getting me to remix another two of his tracks 'Creep' & 'New Strange' which I remixed with another great artist 'Swit'.

KT: What projects are you working on at the moment?

At the moment I am currently working on two EP's that will be released through Club Cartel Records, including a track I'm working on with Club Cartels Owner J-Trick. The two EP's are set to be big. I have a list of other artists who will also be a part of the EP's doing remixes.

KT: For anyone who hasn't caught you live yet; what can they expect to see?

When I DJ, my aim is always to make the crowd jump. So I guarantee there will be bangas. I always have new yummy bassy tracks up my sleeve ;)

KT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical' and why?

Levels by Aviccii because it's summery and when I think of summer I think of tropical islands lol!!

For Atlanta based Treasure Fingers second EP on Defected he's teamed up with No Brainer Records head honcho Malente. This 2 tracker features title track "Crusaders" an infectiously funky disco bassline, dope stabs, a catchy & impeccable production make this is a must. The 2nd track on the EP is "Au Revue" and again the guys show their disco pedigree taking a loop and just working it perfectly. Time to get on your red dancing shoes!

Monday Mix Up #19 w/ Blake!

Interview: Kid's Table

KT: First up; What's your DJ name and how did you get/choose it?
My DJ name is Blake!... that also happens to be my first name.. the "!' was added so it's like your yelling it as you say it. Definitely adds more excitement.
KT: How did you come to start deejayin'?
I had always loved electronic dance music and I became obsessed with every song released on the Ministry of Sound CDs... Thank god I'm not anymore.. I started pressing buttons and mixing the odd song when mates played at house parties.. next thing I knew I was that guy playing at house parties and then BOOM I was playing in clubs. I wasn't the best at first but after developing my own skills and style I realised that this was the most awesome thing EVER.
KT: What has been your favourite gig so far?

I've been lucky enough to have some pretty amazing gigs, supporting internationals and headlining interstate parties but my favourite gig so far would have to be on my birthday last year.. I played between Hey Sam (Jump To This) and Spacey Space (my idol) to a full tramp. The crowd just loved every song I played and everything I did behind the decks worked perfectly, it was amazing.. not to mention I was completely wasted.

KT: What can people expect to hear form one of your sets?

Tech house with acapellas going everywhere.. the odd classic thrown in for good measure.. RnB break downs and lots of cowbell! (KT: FUCK YEAH COWBELL) Think of the music at the best house party you've ever been to and then times that by 10 - that's what I like to think I sound like.

KT: Who's your favourite DJ/Producer at the moment?

My favourite DJ at the moment would be local Benson, he's also killing it at producing too! My favourite producer is by far Danny T, everything he releases is gold! Always a few of his tracks in my sets.

KT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical'?

Those Dancing Days (Loot & Plunder Remix) - Monkey Safari, it has Getting Tropical all over it.

KT: If you had one special power what would it be and why?

The ability to pause, rewind and fast forward time.. to skip all the bullshit, relive the best bits and pause stuff.. because I can.

KT: What plans do you have for Blake! in the future?

I would love to have a release on Beatport by the end of the year and to be running my own parties.. besides that just more gigs! I'm playing at my favourite clubs right now but an extra gig here and there would be rad! (Hint, hint)

KT: What's your favourite memory of a live gig you've seen?

I'm always way too drunk to remember the best stuff, but in terms of LIVE gigs... The Swiss @ After Dark Social Club last year was probably one of the best live DJ sets I've ever seen. Watching them jam away on keyboards while doing stuff in Ableton and on mixers was awesome! They created the best vibe in the venue and were smiling ear to ear whilst doing it... and so was everyone else! Now that's what you want!

KT: To all the promoters out there; why should they book you?

Promoters should book me because I am a one man party. I love what I do and it's obvious when I play, people dig that shit... and if you don't like Tech House I'll make you love it by the end of the night.
