Nasty Girls (Original Mix) - Dan Caster & Sascha Braemer

Writer: Kid's Table

This track was released about a month ago but it's one that has been stuck in my head for the past 2 weeks or so - it has a mad jackin' tech haus vibe that just makes you wanna dance around a bunch of couches on chapel street on a Sunday arvo. This is one track that you need to sit back and enjoy in your head phones nice and loud. Word up again to Sascha Braemer coming through with the goods again w/ Dan Caster!

#1 Lime And Pink (Original Mix) - Wadsworth Download

Genre: Tech House

Label: One Records

Some thumping techy funky beats right here. Such a basic track but it somehow has a massive appeal about it. Progressively changing up the percussion and introducing a nice deep house synth and vocal snippets here and there, Wadsworth's Lime And Pink becomes a must have.

#2 Minimal Happiness (Original Mix) - Joe Maker Download

Genre: Minimal

Label: Clorophilla Records

The orgasmic minimal bassline drives this track, along with a nice synthy build and sweet melodic percussion. The vocal sample also helps to break up the track.

#3 I Am The Creator Of Jack (Original Mix) - Darius Syrossian Download

Genre: Tech House

Label: Get Physical Music

Darius Syrossian is definitely making an impact on the tech house scene, this track following his hit "Stay Up Dancing, Get In Monday" a couple of months ago. Old school funky synth hits and vocal samples thrown on top of a sweet tech house bassline sums up this track right up. Amazing.

#4 Pandi Panda (Original Mix) - Mavericks Download

Genre: Minimal

Label: Sex Panda Records

Pandi Panda leans towards the more acidic side of minimal. Tech tweaky synths and percussion with the darker vocal sample really make for a techno style banger.

Monday Mix Up #3 w/ Tricky Dick

Interview: Kid's Table

KT: First up; What's your DJ name and how did you get/choose it?

Tricky Dick: Tricky Dick, I may or may not have done a very convincing impersonation of Richard Nixon in front of one of the promotors that books me, and next thing I knew, I was billed as Tricky Dick. I wasn't arguing haha.

KT: How did you come to working together/start deejayin'?

Tricky Dick: When I was about 16 I was listening to alot of dance stuff, when electro was big, and pretty much fell in love! Used to cruise around in my 1989 Ford Meteor pumping "Its True" by Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso Vs Salem Al Fakir. Then one day I heard about "Virtual DJ" and downloaded that. I had no idea what I was doing.. haha. Eventually played a few parties around my home town Portland, then moved to Geelong where I begged my dad to buy me decks and set up base! The rest as they say, is history!

KT: What has been your favourite gig so far?

Tricky Dick: This is a hard one because there have been so many! Yolanda Be Cool at Blue Martini was a big one, a couple of sets at the Barking Dog for Knock Knock especially the Mowgli support with Josh Symons. The Monkey Safari support at The Nash, once again with Josh Symons was definantly a highlight for me! At the moment, every set Im playing up here at Mt Hotham has been huge! Everybody is so down to party!

KT: What can people expect to hear form one of your sets?

Tricky Dick: Depending on where Im playing it can vary greatly. Currently, my sets are very party, featuring alot of house and electro, hip hop and stuff like "Meet you at the love parade", haha, even Dubstep is going mental!

But if I am playing more for myself, I absolutely LOVE Techno, Tech House, maybe a little Progressive House and straight out stomping house! In saying that though, I love music, Im not biased and will give anything a chance. I have been listening to alot of Funk in my spare time, its really nice.

KT: Who's your favourite DJ/Producer at the moment?

Tricky Dick: Easily Light Year from Bang Gang 12"s. I think that goes for alot of people too, they are fresh! Being up on the mountain I havnt been able to catch a Dj set for a while, but I have been listening to Light Year on Triple J's mix up, and loosing my shit!

KT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical'?

Tricky Dick: Those Dancing Days - Monkey Safari, you can't help but groove to it!

KT: What plans do you have for Tricky Dick in the future?

Tricky Dick: Continue playing up here at Hotham for the rest of the season, then, move back to Melbourne and try and find myself a place to play on a regular basis. That would be nice. Also focus more on production, I really want to start doing some recording and production with other people. I have a couple of mates in a band that have asked me to jam with them so that would will be fun to try!

KT: What's your favourite memory of a live gig you've seen?

Tricky Dick: There has been a few, but some of the ones that stood out were Public Enemy at Falls Festival, "FLAAAVVAAAA FLLAVVVVVVV", Crystal Castles in Melbourne and Ratatat in Melbourne aswell. They were all really amazing.

KT: To all the promoters out there; why should they book you?

Tricky Dick: I feel I can be diverse and adapt to most crowds, I really love playing late night House and Tech sets, I love the vibe of a full dance floor at 5am! I think thats where I wanna end up!

Light Year (Bang Gang 12')

From the demure suburbs of East Sydney comes a best donning a jetpack and straddling a kick drum that can be felt from hear to Antarctica. Born in 2009 (year of the Ox) Light Year attained all the qualities needed to become a successful dance troupe. A partnership founded on adverse ideals and very uncommon habits. The one on the drum machine, the one with the small synth obsession, the one who drank still, the one who drank sparkling, the one with the height, the one with the width, the Biggie fan and the 'Pac fan.

Unbeknownst to the average dancer it was in fact a political statement of love for all things dance the boys were making with their higher learning anthem 'Sex Education' lifter from their March 2010 EP release Night/Vision. Championed by the who's who and has a clue of the disc-jockey breed, including captains of cabaret Tiga, Mr. Oizo, Surkin (whom they have remixed for 10 bags of free gummy snakes) and 2manyDJs (who used it in their live show - cutting up a visual bonanza).

Realising that time did in actual fact not stand still as they had originally believed, it too Light Year no time to produce their second EP which has hit like a ball and chain. '5 Girls' saw #23 getting a tanning from the likes of Erol Alkan, 2manyDJs (cutting up yet again another visual bonanza), Feadz, Etienne de Crecy and has made appearances on Radio 1 being turned around by guys with voices like the Queen.

5 GIRL5 EP by Light Year

Nina Las Vegas (Triple J House Party)

Host of House Party 6pm every Saturday night on Triple J - those of you who were lucky enough to see her set down at Knock! Knock! Who's There? at the Barking Dog over summer all know how much Nina dominates the decks.

With mish mash of indie/disco/dance tracks you can expect to hear the best of new and unreleased music you listen to on the J every Saturday night!

Trump Disco (Common Trolls)

Boasting a rich history of remixes for prevalent artists such as Phoenix, Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup, Greenskeepers, Rammstien, Haezer and Adam Freeland is barely the tip of the iceberg for this Australian duo. 2010 was a defining year for Trumpdisco achieving feats that only great talent can aspire to.

The duo are signed to Melbourne record label Common Trolls; and after a successful tour of South East Asia and New Zealand they've generated immense hype and acclaim for their debut EP and are set to release their second official EP in the near future.

It's Time For An Indian Summer..

Interview: Kid's Table

GT: First up; What's your DJ name and how did you get/choose it?

Indian Summer DJs: I got the name from the 'Beat Happening' song 'Indian Summer'.

GT: How did you come to working together/start deejayin'?

Indian Summer DJs: I do the party/production thing with long time friend Chevy Long. It started when we took a trip around Europe ending up in Morocco. He played me some of the stuff he'd been working on and I wanted to be involved. We got back to Australia and released our first full length mixtape, which we have now done two east coast and one national tour on.

GT: What has been your favourite gig so far?

Indian Summer DJs: Splendour in the Grass 2010 was a lot of fun, we've been lucky enough to be invited back again this year. I just got back from a great trip up to Sydney, I played at last night at the Gaelic Theatre; the crowd is always fantastic there and really responsive. I think my favourite show of all time though was last summer. It was an I Oh You warehouse party we played in Melbourne with Yeasayer, Foals and Trumpdisco; the venue was packed and I ended up drinking a bottle of vodka, crowd surfing and making a general fool out of myself. It was a great night.

GT: What can people expect to hear form one of your sets?

Indian Summer DJs: My main focus is to always try to keep a good balance between entertaining the audience and playing tasteful tunes. Recently I've been playing a lot of disco/old school funk remixes in my sets as well as our own productions. I like doing stuff like bring heaps of beach balls /filling up rooms with balloons when I play as well.

The most important thing for me is for people to be having a good time - if chin-strokers don't like my sets I'm not really that fussed.

GT: Who's your favourite DJ/Producer at the moment?

Indian Summer DJs: My favourite local producers at the moment are Swick & Tranter, 2 guys that have been round for years and are doing huge stuff at the moment. Everything they put out is ridiculously good.

GT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical'?

Indian Summer DJs: At the moment it's the Dillon Francis remix of 'Hits me like a Rock' by CSS, such a good tune.

GT: If you had one special power what would it be and why?

Indian Summer DJs: Invisibility so I could creep on cute girls.

GT: What plans do you have for Indian Summer DJs in the future?

Indian Summer DJs: At the end of this month I'll be playing at Splendor in the Grass and starting monthly parties in Sydney, Canberra and Gold Coast in August. Our second full length Indian Summer mix tape should be out in September as well.

GT: What's your favourite memory of a live gig you've seen?

Indian Summer DJs: Probably seeing the Vines at the Tote a couple of years ago. It was sold out, the line was about 500m long and I was underage so we had to all go commando style through the vacant lot behind the venue and jump down a huge fence. It ended up being an awesome show.

The Life Of A Park: Pt.II

Writer: Kid's Table

Another big electronic artist that is on the Parklife line up is UK's Feed Me - the new EP is a mix of modern electronic breaks and dub-step. Most people haven't heard a lot about this act but Feed Me is another addition that the team at Fuzzy have chosen smartly. Feed Me will slot into the Parklife line up seamlessly and is one that I have marked down as a must see!

What words can describe the one and only DJ Funk? Pioneer? Party Rocker? Ghetto House Icon?

DJ Funk grew up on the musically rich West Side of Chicago where he was exposed at an early age to Chicago, New York & Detroit dance music. As a teenager Funk began to DJ at house parties, neighborhood clubs as well as selling mixtapes in the hood to make ends meet. Mixing House, Techno and Hip-Hop, DJ Funk pioneered the 'Ghetto House' genre, releasing 'Ghetto House Anthems 1 & 2' and 'Booty House Anthems 1 & 2' which have gone to sell over one million records worldwide.

DJ Funk's remix resume reads like the who's who of dance music: Justice, Basement Jaxx and DJ Sneak to name a few. While licensing tracks to DJ's such as Carl Cox, Bad Boy Bill, Humpty Vision, Jeff Miles, Dave Clark for their mix CD Albums, he's played across the globe for the past ten years with the likes of Daft Punk, Green Velvet, Justice, Ice T, DJ Dan, DJ Qbert, Wu Tang Clan, Grand Master Flash, African Bambata, Run DMC, and the list goes on. His shows are maximum hype, he's on the mic the whole time.

Now he's ready with a whole new agenda. With his remix of Justice's indie-club hit 'Water's of Nazareth' a whole new generation of fas are finding out what DJ Funk is all about. Sure everyone's heard his tract 'Face down, Ass Up, That's The Way We Like To Fuck'. He's now signed with Busy P's Ed Banger Records with a new album on the way.

This man is truly an underground dance music legend.

Support from 1928, Sleeves, Swick & Tranter, Surpremes and more to be announced.

Tropical Tunesday #21

Writer: Kid's Table

This weeks tunesday post is inspired by my beer pong dominators in the form of Loot & Plunder; they have done a remix of what has possibly been the most re-worked song of 2011 so far. Instead of just making a main room house banger they've put a new spin on the track and created a mad sexy disco-funk track that makes you just want to strap on your quad wheel skates and hit the rink!

Adele - Rolling in the Deep (Loot & Plunder Remix) by Loot & Plunder Djs

Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden - Bonkers (As Heard On Radio Soulwax edit) by soulwax

Congorock - Babylon (NT89 remix) FREE by NT89

Also - here's a nice preview of local talent Galtier's new original track. You can't argue hear this guys got skills and I know I can't wait to here the finished product!

Monday Mix Up #2 w/ 1928 (Bush Records, STROBE)

Interview: Kid's Table

DJ Name: 1928
Label: Bush Records
Residencies: STROBE, Love Story, Saturdays @ Eurotrash
Years in the industry: 10+
Soundcloud: [click here]
Favourite catch phrase: Jameson & soda please.

KT: For everyone out there looking to get into deejayin'; how did you first start and what was your 'big break'?

1928: I started back in the days of vinyl. In the Techno scene it was hard to get gigs because everyone who played out was technically awesome and promoters wouldn't take anyone serious that couldn't mix super tight. So I literally practised everyday for two years before even giving a promoter a mix tape. It paid off because I got my first gig straight away and got bookings off the back of that one when promoters saw I did a good job live. From there it was playing out as much as possible and being asked to play bigger and bigger events.

KT: What advice can you give to aspiring deejays out there that want to make their hobby into a career?

1928: First up, practice. Recording shit loads of live mix tapes in the beginning is great too - you'll listen to them over and over and see where you can improve. Being able to create and keep a dance floor for an entire set is where it's at, so it helps if you've got great flow - your song selection and mixing have got to be good. If you want to get anywhere as a DJ locally you've got to play to the crowd, pay attention to reactions from track to track. Hitting clubs thinking you can play whatever you want usually leads to cleared dance floors. I'm also a promoter at the moment and I definitely don't like to see this happen.. Also I get a lot of mix tapes and I like to hear how people mix live so I don't listen to Ableton mixes - I can't speak for other promoters. I like to be sent everything up front - mix tape, tracklist, bio, links. Send a mix tape that's relevant to the promoters night.

KT: What had been your favourite gig/venue to play at and why?

1928: I got to support Carl Cox recently which was huge for me, he's a long time hero. I warmed up for Breakbot at Summadayze this year which was also another highlight. Closing for MSTRKRFT at Creamfields 2010 was awesome.

KT: Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far?

1928: In terms of DJing definitely Jeff Mills. Technically brilliant, unique, with creative mixing and amazing flow. In terms of production I'm really inspired by too many acts to name, from all kinds of genre's.

KT: What projects are you working on at the moment?

1928: I've just finished my second EP which has just been released on Bush Records. I'm working on new 1928 tracks that will be out around September, and also on a side project under an alias that's a completely different sound. I've also recently mix engineered a local rappers mix tape, MC Mose. Sleeves and I are working on our next STROBE show with DJ Funk which is really exciting! Huge fan, dude is wild.

KT: For anyone who hasn't caught you live yet; what can they expect to see?

1928: Hopefully hands in the air. Depending on where I'm playing I play a little different, sometimes heavier club stuff and sometimes more party vibe. Often a bit of both.

KT: What's the first song that pops into your head when you think 'Getting Tropical' and why?

1928: Not sure but a picture just popped into my head of me sitting on a beach in the Caribbean drinking a cocktail listening to a Tranter mix tape.
