Creamfields. Do you need a reason..? Dada Life

They don't care about genres. They don't care about smartness. They don't care about the things you care about. Dada Life just want to make you jump up and down. Then make you crash into a wall with a smile on your face.

The formula has been a winner since the start. In summer 2006 Dada Life released 'Big Time' and DJs all over got their first take on the duo. Since then there has been a steady stream of records: 'The Great Fashionista Swindle', 'Vote Yes' and 'Fun Fun Fun' as well as the full length album 'Just Do the Dada'. Dada Life have also remixed artists such as Laidback Luke, Alex Gopher and Dan Black/Kid Cudi.

The tunes are played by everyone from Crookers, Eric Prydz and Benny Benassi to David Guetta, as well as featured on tons of complilations. Tiesto quickly understood how to Do the Dada - and the duo played before him on his massive USA tour 2009 (as well as some dates in 2010).

As DJs; Dada Life always have a little extra in their record bag. They constantly produce their own remixes/edits of good tunes in order to have something unique to play.

Here's their most recent mix tape to give you a taste of what YOU could be hearing if you WIN 1 of 2 Getting Tropical double passes to Creamfields!

Drop The Lime: April Tour

Drop The Limes new single is set for the Aus release and will be touring throughout April. The new track entitled 'Hot as Hell' is at first glance an unlikely pairing of rockabilly and dance music. However they both have roots in seedy clubs, smoke-filled back rooms and accompanied by masses of distinctively dressed people moving to the propulsive beats. So although the two sounds may be aurally different Drop The Lime has combined the two nightlife youth culture genres into a rhythmic mix styled with pounding bass.

The New York bread Luca Venezia, aka Drop The Lime, was brought up listening to the likes of Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and Richie Valens, and learned to play guitar and sing from a young age. Like every punter out there he wanted to be a rock star. Fast-forward a few years and a love affair with club music began - drum'n'bass, jungle and 2step garage - then moving to Berlin he was immersed in house, techno and the never-ending warehouse parties the city is known for.

Drop The Lime is spearheading a new sound. Is it Electrobilly? Rockabass? Who knows.. but one thing's for sure - we're all dancing to it! The new single 'Hot as Hell' has been remixed by Canblaster, Para One, Nouveau Yorican (Laidback Luke & Gina Turner) & Australia's Andy Murphy & Yolanda Be Cool.

Drop The Lime's much anticipated debut album 'Enter The Night' drops in May 2011 but for now you can catch on his Australian April tour at the below dates:

Friday April 8th             Academy, Canberra
Saturday April 9th         Chinese Laundry, Sydney
Sunday April 10th         Kings Hotel, Wollongong
Thursday April 14th      Electric Circus, Adelaide
Friday April 15th           Limelite @ Metropolis, Fremantle, Perth
Saturday April 16th       Superdisco @ The Prince, Melbourne

Tropical Tunesday #5

Tropical Tunesday is back with it's 5th instalment, some great tracks here, give 'em a listen and enjoy!

Drunk Skunk (LA Riots Remix) - Sonic C

Daylight (Club Mix) - Dumme Jungs

To Die For (Kids At The Bar) - The Sounds

Ow (Para One Remix) - Depressed Buttons

Through The Prism (Dada Life Remix) - Designer Drugs

March Fantastic Four

Guest Writer: Steve Camp

#1 The Beta Set (Original Mix) - Funkagenda

Label: Toolroom Records

Genre: Tech House

The Beta Set comes from Funkagenda's latest work on Toolroom Records: "Budgie/The Beta Style EP". This tech house track has the unmistakeable Funkagenda rolling back and forth, up and down bassline, as well as some sick break down edits and rising synth notes, which all together make for a monster track.

#2 Levan Polkka (Daniele Petronelli Remix) - Juan Ddd & Johan Dresser

Label: No-Logik

Genre: Minimal

This minimal release on No-Logik Records is simply amazing. Using the vocals from the track "Levan Polkka", a Finnish song from the 1930s, the track delivers cleverly chopped up vocals with a smooth baseline, cheeky percussion and a great drop.

#3 Stay Up Dancing, Get In Monday (Original Mix) - Darius Syrossian

Label: Area Remote

Genre: Tech House

This is tech house at it's best. Released on Area Remote, the laid back baseline with a sweet and short repeating vocal sample makes the track extra catchy. The melodic piano and trombone break in the middle of the track makes the drop so tasty!

#4 Bipolar (Original Mix) - Hertz

Label: Respekt Recordings

Genre: Techno

This is one of Hertz debut tracks on Respekt Recordings, their "Bipolar" EP including another track entitled "Manic". This techno track has made its way into my top 4 for its dirty, hard-hitting and solid driving loop, with clever percussion and build up placement throughout.

Sander Van Doorn Remix Competition: Steve Camp

Steve Camp first got into Deejayin' in early 2007 thanks to his good mate Chris Dynasty who is a tech, trance, funky techno and hard trance producer straight out of Melbourne.

Steve acquired his first vinyl turntables in 2008 and started practising at home and creating a distinct style and love of tech, trance, funky techno and hard trance.

He has been using Fruity Loops to produce music since '08 and has recently been making tracks with Chris White endeavouring to be released some time this year by a Melbourne based record label.

At the start of '09 he became a resident Deejay at Home House Night Club and then at the Eureka Hotel once it re-opened from renovations. He now continues to hold his residency at Eureka on Thursday and Saturday nights with an occasional set at Home House.

Steve has been a guest Deejay at Blue Stone Night Club (Ballarat), Mista Hydes and The Barking Dog (Geelong).

Steve has supported the likes of Tommy Trash, Timmy Trumpet, Hook N Sling, DCup, Keli Hart, Miami Horror, Ajax, Blue Juice, Mobin Master, Andy Murphy and the Midnight Juggernauts!

Most people out there would have heard Steve's mash up of 'Illmerica' and 'We Are Your Friends'. It's been played by Chris Lake at enHouse, Benny Benassi at Pacha, Sander Van Doorn's Identity Podcast #64 and was the opening track for Tiesto's Club Life Mix #186. Either way you look at it this track is bangin' and has been recognised by some of the biggest names in the biz!

Justice vs. Wolfgang Gartner - Illmerica Are Your Friends (Steve Camp Mashup) by Steve Camp

Most recently Steve has entered the Sander Van Doorn Remix competition and with less than 2 days to vote I tropically suggest you head over to the site here and vote for a local talent!

Get Low Monthly @ Revolver feat Mat Cant, Airwolf & 1 Fish Two Fish

Now everybody knows the infamous Revolver Nightclub; it's reputation precedes itself  and all you tropical punters out there know exactly what it's about; real club music, dedicated club goers and a true representation of Melbourne's music scene.

Get Low may not be as old as the venue itself, but in it's second monthly it boasts an amazing line-up that established nights could only dream of.

Set Times

10-11pm Mat Cant
11-12am Airwolf
1-2am Mat Cant

Mat Cant
Mat Cant (Scattermusic, Sweat It Out, Revolver) is one of Geetroit's second son's and we all know him as a member of the Scattermusic crew who recently rocked The Nash back room on their SMSS tour.

He has well and truly earnt his stripes as one of Melbourne's most respected DJs and is a role model for many youngsters who wish to follow in his path.

Many of you hear him most at his monthly residency in The Nash front bar; but that is merely the tip of the ice berg in Mat's packed gig calendar. As well as holding weekly slot at Revolver's 'Get Low' night he has been busy playing to packed out shows as 360s DJ most recently at Good Vibration Melbourne.

Pushing his unique sound of Funky UK Grime Club Mat has supported international acts such as A-Trak (USA), Harvard Bass (USA), AC Slater (USA), Douster (France) and Mowgli (UK) just to name a few. His most recent remix of Round Table Knight's track 'Say What' represents what a talented produced Mat is and that he is definitely one to keep an eye on for the future!

Round Table Knights - Say What? (Mat Cant Remix) VOTE NOW (http://bit.ly/ek5UsR) by Mat Cant

Airwolf
Whilst still in his teens this Melbourne producer has achieved far more than he could have ever dreamt of at the ripe age of 12 when his Deejaying career was born. Skipping school to make mix-tapes and edits illustrates his hard work and dedication, which has been the instigator for him burst through the scene and shoot through the ranks of Australian dance acts.

Airwolf originally created a lot of attention purely on his Deejaying abilities, sparking interest from all around the country which saw him headlining nights not only locally, but in major cities and rural areas around the country. He shouldn’t, however be cut short and fall into the ‘just a Deejay’ category. Over the past few years his production has made a considerable impact onto the blog scene with his electrifying synth driven disco remixes.

Future Music Festival 2011 Melbourne

It's coming to the tail end of the summer festival season but as all of you singlet loving fist pumpers out there know Future Music Festival never fails to impress.

I myself will not be there, I'll be trawling for salmon before heading up to take part in the post-festival shenanigans; so it's up to all of YOU to take on the responsibility of getting tropical at FMF'11!

It Seems a lot of people out there only go to these festivals to rock their ridiculously low cut singlets, over sized le spec sunnies and get their hit of Afrojack fueled fist pumping. Due to many time table clashes this year at FMF have many tuff decisions to make as to who they see so I've selected 4 must see acts that you cannot miss.

*Highly honourable mention goes to The Chemical Brothers who missed out on selection to Plastikman due to the fact they are more likely to tour Aus again in your tropical lifetime!

Plastikman

Plastikman is the alter ego of one of the world’s most revered electronic DJs and Producers - Richie Hawtin.

Here in the above video you can see him in full force at 5:50am on an amazing Sunday somewhere in a London warehouse. His audio visual show as Plastikman is definitely not one to be missed and will surely blow your mind!
9:55pm Plastikman @ The Likes Of You Stage

Mark Ronson
Mark Ronson & The Business International
No doubt all of you know my next suggestion; Mark Ronson & The Business International. Ronson and his newly formed band have had a massive year attracting Australian audiences with hits such as; The Bike Song, Bang Bang Bang and Somebody To Love.

His pure talent as a musician comes out in his live shows be it as a DJ or with his band. This is one act that you will guarantee aural satisfaction!

Mark Ronson & The Business International 5:30 @ Mazda 2 Flamingo Stage

Mark Ronson & The Business INTL - Bang Bang Bang (U-Tern's Disco Dub) by U-Tern

Pendulum
Pendulum
2010 was a huge year for Pendulum with their genius re-work of the ABC news theme. They turned possibley the blandest most boring piece of music into something that could turn dancefloors into a marvouled frenzy.

They most recently graced the decks for Triple J Mix up last Saturday night and if that was anything to go by then their FMF set should certainly get you up and about and fist pumping like a champ!

Pendulum 8:45 @ Mazda 2 Flamingo Stage

Pendulum - The Island (Tumor Remix) by Hoerstoff

Loco Dice
Loco Dice
Loco Dice is one that is probably unfamiliar to a lot of you tropical tricksters out there but definitely one you cannot pass up.

His production and mixing ability does nothing but amaze. The way he bridges genres through perfect mixing Loco Dice is one to take you and a smooth journey that you will come out of wanting more!

Labour Day Eve: Harlot House @ Tramp

The 13th of March marks another public holiday eve and this only means one things on the minds of all the Tramp lovers out there; the 23rd edition of 'Harlot House' @ Tramp Bar Melbourne.

If you've never been to Tramp before.. well.. the old saying "If you remember The Preston, you were never really there" definitely applies to this venue. It's underground in a basement on King Street and is not for the faint hearted.

*Note: If this is like any previous Harlot House then it is a must to pre-purchase tickets ($20)
Contact Hoops 0408815607
Harlot House as always has a massive line up:

Spacey Space
Spacey Space started playing records professionally in 1993 at a weekly gig called ‘Bud Dub Loves Loops’ at Lounge in Melbourne’s CBD. The night was a chilled, mid-week affair where you could hear Detroit techno, arty electronica, ambient dub and ancient Jamaican reggae mixed up with film scores, rap music and electro funk. ‘Bud Dub’ enjoyed cruisey success for about a year but Spacey was itching to get the floor moving, so he got some decks, learned to mix and the rest is Dance Music History.

First parties, then clubs, soon the word got out and Spacey was hosting his own radio show Space Station on the original Kiss 90FM. Space Station allowed him to play tracks that were too deep or too twisted for the dance floor and the experimental programming attracted a loyal cult following. The magic lasted four years and recorded tapes of the show are now considered collectables - a fact reflected by the prices they reach when auctioned on e-bay.

Since this time, Spacey Space has played with countless local and international DJs and bands and at scores of parties. Gigs include Earthcore, Big Day Out Boiler Room, Welcome 2000 and ongoing guest spots at parties by Bamboozled, Deceptacon, No Vacancy, Mischief and various Future Entertainment events.

A regular on the Melbourne club scene, Spacey rocks his current residencies at Revolver Upstairs on Sunday mornings and Sunday nights, and Tramp on Friday nights, plus regular quest spots at Cushion Lounge, Alumbra, 3rd Class, Mixed Messages, Fix Jam, Googie Nights and Billboard. Needless to say the invites just keep coming, with occasional dust ups between rival clubs vying for Spacey’s sweet sounds.

Always sourcing fresh material, Spacey specialises in dropping loads of tough Electro, selected Mash-ups and R’N’B bootlegs, bits of Good House and a smattering of classics from the vaults. Like a siren of the sea or a modern day Pied Piper, Spacey fills the floor. Listeners dance as though possessed, only stopping when, overcome by the power of Spacey’s set, they stand still and weep.

Chardy
Chardy is a local Melbourne DJ who is renowned for his electro disco dub tec house. Chardy has remixed and produced with TV Rock and is now pushing his mixes way in to the beatport, djdownload and aus aria club charts .
Chardy’s unique style, ability and following is guaranteed to fill the floor at any given venue. Chardy has played at Summerdayz, Falls Festival, God’s Kitchen and Future music festival just to name a few.
Chardy has earned a reputation throughout Melbourne for the vibrant atmosphere he creates and his funky tune selection. His ability to read a crowd enables him to set the mood and deliver a unique set guaranteed every time. With his sheer dedication Chardy’s set will be one not to miss!
